Today was filled with exciting experiences, starting with a visit to Colgate-Palmolive, where we received a detailed presentation from Mona Routray, Courtney McMahon, Durrell Robinson, and Jessica Burk. The presentation gave us an inside look into how a large People Analytics team operates within a global company. Later in the day, we worked with Dirk and Erin from CruncHR, using their software to analyze "CruncHR Airline" data. The hands-on experience allowed us to apply data analytics in real-time, making strategic business decisions based on the insights gathered.
The visit to Colgate-Palmolive was particularly insightful for me. Coming from a smaller company where I am the sole member of the People Analytics team, it was fascinating to see how a large, well-structured team operates. The collaboration between their People Analytics team and other departments gave me a broader perspective on how people data can be leveraged across a large organization. I was impressed by how they stressed that data requests at times need to be revisited and refined to get valuable insights. This reinforced the importance of being flexible and open-minded when working with data.
The hands-on experience with CruncHR software was a major highlight. Compared to the tools I currently use, such as PowerBI, CruncHR made data analysis feel incredibly intuitive and efficient. It allowed us to quickly generate solutions to complex business problems, leaving me thinking about how adopting such tools could drastically improve data-driven decision-making in my company.
Today's experiences connected directly to what we've experienced the past few days in the HCAT program. Seeing Colgate-Palmolive's People Analytics team in action reinforced many of the concepts we've discussed about scaling analytics within larger organizations and the importance of cross-functional collaboration. The CruncHR exercise, on the other hand, highlighted the value of leveraging user-friendly data tools to enhance analytical capabilities. Both experiences expanded my understanding of integrating data and analytics into human capital management at different scales.
The key takeaway for my current role is the potential value of investing in more intuitive and scalable data tools like CruncHR. As a team of one, I often find myself juggling multiple tasks, and having access to a platform that simplifies and accelerates the data analysis process could be a game-changer. Additionally, the lessons from Colgate-Palmolive around team collaboration and managing multiple systems offer valuable insights into how I can better manage my analytics work and advocate for additional resources within my organization.
Today's experiences pushed me to think more critically about how I approach data analytics in my own work. The exposure to Colgate-Palmolive's People Analytics team made me realize that I need to think bigger about analytics's role, even within smaller organizations. It also reminded me of the importance of remaining flexible when analyzing data, as the initial results don't always meet expectations. The hands-on work with CruncHR further cemented my belief in the importance of staying adaptable and open to new tools and technologies as the field of People Analytics continues to evolve.
Moving forward, I want to explore new tools like CruncHR that can streamline and simplify the data analysis process in my current role. I'm also motivated to think about ways to advocate for the growth of the People Analytics function within my organization, possibly expanding it beyond just myself. Additionally, I plan to deepen my understanding of the various systems used by larger companies, as I believe this knowledge will be valuable as I progress in my career.
