People and Organization Management Reflection Day 1

Updated: Oct 30, 2024

Today marked the beginning of my journey in the People and Organization Management class as part of the HCAT program at NYU. The day was filled with insightful experiences, starting with an in-depth overview of the HCAT program and the course structure for the week. Diana DeCubellis led a detailed presentation where she guided us through the results of a strengths assessment test, helping us analyze and understand our individual strengths. This was followed by a demonstration from Kira Luschner, who introduced us to AI Coaching and showcased "Nadia," an AI Coach designed to assist with professional development.

The strengths assessment exercise was particularly impactful for me. It was eye-opening to see the connection between my inherent strengths and the challenges I face in my professional life. This realization validated some of my self-perceptions and provided me with a clearer understanding of areas where I can focus on improvement. The demonstration of the AI Coach, Nadia, was both fascinating and thought-provoking. It raised a critical question in my mind: "Is AI on the verge of replacing Human Resources professionals in the future?" This has left me pondering the evolving role of technology in our field and how it might shape the future of HR.

Today's discussions directly tie into the concepts we're exploring in the HCAT program, particularly around leveraging data and technology to enhance human capital management. The strengths assessment aligns with the program's focus on using analytics to drive personal and organizational growth. Similarly, the introduction of AI in coaching connects to the broader theme of technological advancements and their impact on the workforce, a key area of study in our program.

From a practical standpoint, I can see how integrating an AI Coach like Nadia could be highly beneficial in my current role. With many new and seasoned managers at my company, a tool like this could provide consistent, data-driven coaching, potentially reducing employee relations issues. The insights from the strengths assessment could also be applied to tailor development programs for employees, ensuring that their roles align more closely with their strengths.

Today's experiences reaffirmed my passion for learning and validated my decision to pursue this program. The conversations I had today about my future aspirations made me realize that I might not be thinking big enough in terms of my career goals. This realization pushes me to re-evaluate my ambitions and consider how to leverage this program to achieve more significant personal and professional growth.

Looking ahead, I want to build on today's insights by exploring more about the role of AI in HR and how it can be integrated into organizational practices. I also plan to delve deeper into the strengths assessment to better understand how to apply these insights in my current role and in shaping my future career path. This reflection has highlighted areas for further exploration, and I'm eager to see where this journey will take me.
